Well, at Least it’s Attention
It’s great watching babies grow up and learn all sorts of different skills, like eating, walking, talking and telling their Dad not to fart so loud (is he kidding?). But if there’s one thing our daughter still struggles with after a year’s time, it’s petting the cats.
It’s actually not petting so much as fur tugging/smacking. Olive has no tolerance for it and runs for the hills when she sees Georgia coming. Hazel, on the other hand, usually sticks it out because to her, getting smacked over the head is still attention and any attention is good attention.
We don’t have a cat, but we visited my parents over the holidays and they do. He’s fifteen and would like nothing more than to just lounge places and relax (like most old men). My three year old son follows him around to pet him (which he is pretty good at, sometimes he tugs on his tail too much) and he tries to get away, but being old he only gets up and moves a few steps and lays back down, after a couple of tries he just lets him pet him and grumbles about it. My 14 month old daughter is terrified of the cat, she would cry and panic if he was nearby.
Like anything, I suppose it gets better with practice :).
My 12 yo Snowshoe is the most tolerant of cats. She’s like that cat in Peanuts that gets thrown over the shoulder and just lays there and she is the most accepting of any new animal we bring into out zoo.
New people may pet her and most children are very nice to her and those that pat and tug are tolerated - for a time. We just introduce everyone to her by saying, “This it Tia Butterfly, she is the Queen of our home, please treat her accordingly.” And most do.
Oh, and we added to our zoo over the holidays….lol Now we have a baby bearded dragon and a baby corn snake to go with the birds, cats and dog. lol Truly a zoo now.
Thanks for a great comic!! Happy new year!
Wow, you’re definitely a true animal lover (I can’t go near snakes). 🙂
Happy New Year and thanks for reading!
Ah, come one, it’s only a baby corn snake. She’s adorable. Only about 14 inches long and just as sweet as can be. Corn snakes are the more docile and loving breeds and should only get between 3 and 4 feet. Yura is a sweetie….
She even likes to slither over Fluffy (my beardie). Fluffy doesn’t like it much but given s/he isn’t much bigger, it’s funny to watch.
lol
A good friend of mine had a roomie with a corn snake. I’m sure they’re fine pets, I think I just have a phobia, ha ha!
That’s rough and ready petting!
It seems to have gotten a little better lately. Georgia has been gently resting her head on Hazel, which is a definite improvement :).
