The Co-Pilot
Many gamers out there might see where I’m coming from when I talk about the unwanted/unnecessary co-pilot. It’s the person who insists on sitting next to you when you’re playing a game and telling you where to go and what to do.
In many cases, they’ll tell you to “go back” into a room you’ve already left because you “missed something.” But you didn’t miss anything. It’s your game and you know how to play it. They, on the other hand, have never touched the game, but are second-guessing your every move. You want to tell them to be quiet, but don’t want to look mean (or maybe that’s just me).
One of my favorite games to come out in recent years is Mass Effect 2, which is all about character interaction and making choices. But it looks like Olive isn’t very good with choices.
Lol.
I admit to being a back seat gamer. When my boyfriend plays Mass Effect / Fallout / Batman I constantly tell him he’s missed things and that he’s going the wrong way.
I think I owe him a massive apology.
Ha ha! Well, hopefully he’s not too upset with you!
Take the Pinto!!! Always take the Pinto!
Seriously though, if I didn’t know the story behind this, I’d think that I was that backseat gamer since Olive is sitting in my game chair. 🙂
What a great one!
Yeah, Olive has kind of ruined the game chairs, lol.
Okay, I SO resemble this strip. I need to learn how to “quiet” my inner Olive.
When John and I first got married, I used to pull my desk chair around to his desk and co-pilot while he played Lara Croft (which I nicknamed “the big boob girl game”). I thought I was helpful, but after reading this, I think I was deluding myself. Yikes.
Ha! I didn’t expect this strip to be so convicting. Lot’s of backseat gamers out there! I’m pretty sure I’ve done it myself too. Shame on me.
Well…it seems I can’t talk about Traci now…
Actually, Traci always had a knack for being able to find the “Secrets” in Tomb Raider. (She won’t admit it, but she loves the Dancing part of Rayman Raving Rabbids)
And I would choose Pinto.
I’d love to see Olive with a Portal Gun.
I still need to play Portal! Too many games competing with wife, baby, cats, comics, baby, etc., etc., etc. 😉
Co-pilots are only good if they’re trained professionals with over 1000 hours of flight time! Great strip, Matt. Love your game characters!
Thanks a lot! They were heavily inspired by Mass Effect 2.
Matt… our comics always crack me up… another good one.
Thanks a lot, Sue!
