Cat Compactor
So one time, I crushed Olive. Not to death, just kind of smooshed up into a ball. I realized what I was doing and set her free, so she was ok.
It happened on a Sunday afternoon when I was organizing my comic collection, the manliest hobby ever. If you’re a collector at all, you’re probably all too familiar with the long white boxes the comics go in and I was using the version where a smaller box slides into a larger box so it works like a drawer. What do you even call those? I’ll call them “sadness drawers.”
As I was sliding a sadness drawer into place, it suddenly stopped. I wasn’t sure what was causing the problem, so I gave the sadness drawer a nudge. And then another. And then I suddenly remembered that Olive loves to hang out in boxes and I’m slowly killing her.
Sure, she ended up okay although she did give me that “why would you try to kill me like that?” stare before scurrying off to safety. And it totally reminded me of the trash compactor scene from Star Wars.
I laughed so hard on this one. I had forgotten you did it. SO great. I needed a laugh. Thank you!
Aw, thanks! I always think Olive will run out of new material some day, but she keeps surprising me.
Being the Star Wars geek that I am (to my wife’s dismay), there are many things that remind me of Star Wars scenes.
I suppose the things we love tend to follow us 🙂
As I am trying to read your story, our cat Coco has plopped herself right in front of the screen.
You can buy kids and cats the neatest toys when most of the time it’s a box that they have the most fun with.
We enjoyed hearing about Olive’s hijinks today. Stay warm!!!
Yeah, there is definitely something magical about boxes. Glad you liked the comic!
Very imaginative, Matt! Really fun!
Thanks, Mark!
OMG!! My babies find themselves in that tight spot a lot.
Not to mention the tails swished under the feet as you step back then you get the dirty look for stepping on them. Sigh.
Although, all my felines love to watch me feed crickets to the Beardie. LOL I have to buy baby crickets for the Beardie and get some big ones for the kitties to play with so they stop knocking the cricket cage on the floor.
Yup, it’s all about finding the right distraction :).
My Collie was riding shotgun with his head out the window, and I accidentally rolled the window up on him. Animals like to keep you on your toes. Oh, and all my Golden Age comics are rotting in a landfill somewhere. I so wish I had them in a nice white box today. =(
Yikes! I I had a Collie when I was a kid and she was the best. I’ll keep the window story in mind if I ever have a dog again 🙂
