That Toy Frightens Me
A few months ago, we bought a toy for the cats called the Fling-ama-String. It’s basically an electronic toy that flips a piece of string at the cat, reels it back in and then starts the whole process over again.
We thought Olive would love it and Hazel would be terrified of it. Surprisingly, the exact opposite turned out to be true.
We turned the bad boy on and Hazel ran up to it, started to “meow” with all her might and proceeded to beat the living crap out of the thing. Meanwhile, Olive stayed crouched in a corner, terrified. Strange, huh?
We haven’t bought any fancy electronic toys since then. Recently, Olive found a stick that was left over from a 4th of July bottle rocket and has been carrying it around in her mouth. I guess it’s the simple things she’s after.
I think Olive and “found” toys is like a kid and a cardboard box. This morning it was a balled up piece of paper she had found and was carrying around in her mouth. Sometimes, I think she thinks she is dog.
It’s strange how pets like/dislike toys.
Spencer Puppy likes what ever is obsessed with whatever is new. We have to make a big deal out of giving Brinkley a toy specifically. Then we have to tell Spencer it is Brinkley’s if he goes for it. Spencer actually understands this and will leave it alone after only being told a couple times.
The thing that John forgot to mention about Spencer is that he’s absolutely obsessive when it comes to toys. He’ll become fixated on a specific toy, and it will be his entire world. He will carry it with him to bed, outside to do his “business,” etc. He will even place his paw on it while he’s resting to make sure it doesn’t fall into enemy hands. The other two pups are not nearly as obsessive about their toys.
Makes sense. I’ve still got a whole box of spent bottle rocket sticks that I’ve been carrying and gnawing on. The splinters are kinda awful, but it’s worth it.
