They Meow

If you’ve never seen the movie They Live (shame on you), it’s a horror/comedy/sci-fi film from the late eighties starring Keith David and Roddy Piper. There are a bunch of aliens in the film disguised as humans who can only be seen in their true form by a special pair of glasses.

After learning the secret of the glasses, Roddy Piper’s character (John Nada) tries to get Keith David’s character (Frank Armitage) to put them on and see what all the fuss is about. But Frank isn’t hearing any of that crap, so instead of putting on the glasses he starts throwing punches at John. And the two of them fight. And they fight some more. And you start to think, “man, this is a long fight scene.” And then they fight some more. Then you think, “this is the longest fight scene I’ve ever experienced,” and they fight some more. It’s epic.

So whenever Olive and Hazel are duking it out in the middle of the night, my mind always goes back to that scene. In fact, I’m watching it right now.

This is it. The world ends today. It must be later this afternoon since you’re sitting here reading this.

Do people really think the Apocalypse is today? It seems like some folks took it pretty seriously the last time it happened back in 1999. I heard of a few cases of people stocking up on canned goods because of the coming destruction, which was going to be … all of the missiles going off or something? I’m not entirely sure what good a can of creamed corn would do you if a bunch of nukes went off, but hey, to each his own.

In all seriousness, it’s been an awesome year and I truly, truly appreciate everyone who stops by to read this strip each week. Thank you so much! There is plenty more fun to come in 2013!

Ever meet someone famous/important/legendary in person and end up wishing that you hadn’t? I guess not all legends come with a set of good manners.

If you’re a big fan of the Rankin/Bass Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Christmas Special like me, the last few panels of this strip might look a little familiar. And remember, if you’re a cartoon or Marry Poppins, an umbrella is a perfectly safe way to travel around while you’re suspended miles in the air.

Hey! In case you hadn’t heard, this Friday is the end of the world! And to celebrate … well, I guess you don’t celebrate that, but to commemorate the event I will be running a bonus CAAATS! strip! And here’s the kicker - it’s my 100th strip! See you then!
