Animal…Taking…Over!

by Matt on August 10, 2021 at 12:01 am

Hazel’s weakness is ham. It’s strange and makes no sense, but one whiff of the stuff and she turns into an animal, pawing at your leg and begging for a piece.

And although ham is her absolute favorite, no meat is completely off limits. One night I cooked some chicken for myself and left a piece out on the counter, forgetting to seal it up in something and put it in the fridge. A couple hours later, I found the half eaten chicken breast laying in the corner of the dining room. Hazel had jumped onto the counter, dragged the chicken breast to the dining room and had herself a fancy dinner.

The strangest part about all this is that when is comes to food shenanigans, Olive does not partake. I guess once in a while, she has to be the voice of reason. But not very often.

That Toy Frightens Me

by Matt on August 3, 2021 at 12:01 am

A few months ago, we bought a toy for the cats called the Fling-ama-String. It’s basically an electronic toy that flips a piece of string at the cat, reels it back in and then starts the whole process over again.

We thought Olive would love it and Hazel would be terrified of it. Surprisingly, the exact opposite turned out to be true.

We turned the bad boy on and Hazel ran up to it, started to “meow” with all her might and proceeded to beat the living crap out of the thing. Meanwhile, Olive stayed crouched in a corner, terrified. Strange, huh?

We haven’t bought any fancy electronic toys since then. Recently, Olive found a stick that was left over from a 4th of July bottle rocket and has been carrying it around in her mouth. I guess it’s the simple things she’s after.

Activating Meow-Meow Speed!

Everyone is probably well aware of this by now, but Olive has some strange habits. One of which is sitting in the sink.

It’s usually at a time in which I really need the sink too. Like when I’m hoping to shave or brush my teeth. Dag nab Olive.

So one day, Meg mentioned to me that I should make a comic in which Olive imagines the sink as a flying saucer. So that’s exactly what I did.

Pure Evil

by Matt on July 20, 2021 at 12:01 am

What’s pure evil? No, not Olive. She can be a pest sometimes, but there’s really not an evil bone in her body.

Evil describes the smell that’s left in the “cat’s room” after Olive leaves. No one can go near it. Not me, not Meg, not Hazel and not Olive herself. She actually runs out of the room without hanging around to bury the, uh … stuff.

I’ve heard of deep sea divers oxidizing their lungs so that they can hold their breath longer underwater. I’m thinking of learning the technique to I can hold my breath longer while changing the litter boxes.
